Gaia is a "Pangeatic" world. All landmasses are connected, with a large ocean in the middle and another ocean outside/surrounding the single continent.
The Meteor Sea (inside the continent) is so named because of the Advent of Ages; an event in the distant past where an ancient "center of the world" power was decimated under the weight of one of Gaia's moons crashing into the planet. With time, this crater filled with freshwater and became the Meteor Sea. All the treasures of the Lost Empire are believed to be lost for all time under the moonrock rubble that lines the bottom of the Meteor Sea, and covers whatever was once in its place. Still, small trinkets and treasures wash up every so often. In the last several centuries, an effort has been made to remove loose rubble and debris from areas where it accumulates and begins to contaminate the water, as the resource of freshwater in this massive ocean has been deemed too valuable to lose.
Gaia had two moons from its initial formation until the AA. The cause of the moon falling is not known. The moons were known to be worshipped as deities in the ancient civilization. Gaia now only has 1 moon; this has created calmer weather patterns and tidal currents. This has also weakened the magnetic pull on the continental plates beneath the water; this is causing, slowly, not really noticed now, but over the next several millennia, that Eysle will slowly drift away and form many continents. This is not something known about in the contemporary of HS! But, there are some small signs forming, such as new streams of water forming.
Moon's Names:
Moon that fell -->
Moon that didn't fall -->
Physically/on maps, Gaia is divided into two halves: Moonseed and Cold's Waste. Moonseed contains the continent of Eysle. Cold's Waste is on the other side of Gaia. It's sometimes called Gaia's Cataract/The Cataracts in contemporary HS because of the slang for Eysle as "Gaia's Eye" because of the shape of the continent + Meteor Sea. There's not considered to be nearly anything of value here. Leaving Eysle's Wasteward Ocean and sailing outwards will eventually find that as you go outward you will find less and less life and more and more ice floes, icebergs, and glaciers. Weather will increasingly become volatile, and soon a fog becomes all-present.
In contemporary HS: There is a conspiracy theory that there is SOMETHING at the center of the Cataracts. No one in recorded history has ever seen the center, or traveled nearly that far inward. It is unknown what the rest of the Cold's Wastes look like.
History timelines are measured based on BA (Before Advent) and AA (After Advent). The effect of this Advent was primarily that it marked the beginning of known mutations. These are an effect of the manifestation of Gaia's species of magic evolving over time from the original species that had been introduced by the Moon falling. (In contemporary HS, this is the Haplies -- name pending lol)
Gaia stands in for Earth in Heartsplit. It is not one-to-one. What I need to do is figure out the layout and history up to modern day of Gaia. I'm going to give myself a rough timeline to fill covering these time periods:
BA: Million+ years (parallel to Earth history, this can be less detailed in most places) -- Dino ages, hunter/gather, settlement/agriculture, commercial/empire rising, etc.
AA: 1300 years (Meaning HS takes place in the 14th century LOL)
